About Our Center

The Center for Learning through Wood’s mission is to provide students with life-long woodworking skills and increased confidence in working with tools.

Through a series of classes with increasing skill levels, students can learn basic hands-on carpentry skills, plan and layout projects, work through projects from beginning to end, and design custom projects.  Chris Schnetzer, the Center’s owner and head instructor, believes that woodworking is a valuable skill for novices and professionals.

By sharing his love for woodworking with his four-year-old son, Chris developed an appreciation for the value of teaching young children to do hands-on projects.  Chris attended a course at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship and has been doing projects on his own for more than 10 years.  He founded the Center for Learning Through Wood in September 2003.  Since then, he has enjoyed working closely with many satisfied students.  “Watching the kids’ skills increase overtime and the pride they have in their work is my biggest compensation,” Chris commented.
